First Annual Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence Practitioners' Workshop presented by the ABA.
SAVE THIS DATE: May 19 - 20, 2010
The ABA Section of Science & Technology Law is pleased to invite you to the First Annual Electronic Discovery
and Digital Evidence Practitioners' Workshop in Chicago on May 19-20, 2010.
This practitioners' workshop will provide in-depth and hands-on education for in-house and retained counsel who are
involved in (or who expect to be involved in) litigation involving electronic discovery and digital evidence. Executives
and other litigation stakeholders from both large and small public and private organizations will also gain invaluable
insights on how best to prepare your technical staff and information systems to respond to requests for electronically
stored information (ESI). Addressed to intermediate and advanced ESI litigation practitioners, the workshop will be
taught by our faculty of leading judges, ESI litigation practitioners, forensics experts, and technology thought-leaders,
all of whom have significant experience in managing all aspects of ESI litigation. This workshop is unique in that its
scope is much broader and deeper than traditional eDiscovery courses that address only basic ESI concepts.
The curriculum consists of case studies, a mock trial, keynote sessions and panel discussions with luminaries
in the field, and small workshops for practitioners, technologists and forensics experts. We expect the entire
program will be both illuminating and entertaining. Topics will range from the Seventh Circuit's Electronic
Discovery Pilot Program, and ESI search trends and developments, to emerging digital evidence issues. The
sessions will address the key rules from the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure that impact eDiscovery. There will
also be plenty of time for networking at the receptions at the end of each day.

Continuing Legal Education
Who gets to judge us? The impact of judicial appointments and elections on LGBT litigation.
Presented by the Chicago Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago and CBA Committee for LGBT Rights (CLE credit was provided)
Held on April 20, 2009 at the Chicago bar Association.
In the past 5 years we have seen an increase in LGBT litigation in the judicial system. The LGBT community has made numerous strides and gained numerous rights through litigation, including same-sex marriage. With the current system of appoints and elections in Illinois, the LGBT community can have an affect on the structure of the Illinois Judiciary and potentially the outcome of litigation. In the Federal system, individuals and nonprofits can affect the congressional politics that will determine the future composition of the courts and potentially, the outcome of future LGBT litigation. This program will examine the state and federal judicial process as they relate to LGBT litigation.
The Last Thing Hanging in the Closet: Domestic Violence in LGBT Relationships (Legal Issues and Remedies)
Presented by the Chicago Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago and hosted by Arnstein and Lehr (CLE credit is being requested)
Held on May 28, 2009 at Arnstein and Lehr, LLP
Recent studies have shown that LGBT individuals or couples experience domestic violence at the same rate as heterosexual individuals or couples. However, LGBT individuals face different challenges in the justice system, with local police, and other domestic violence agency which are not properly trained and sometimes not properly equipped to handle the issues facing LGBT victims of domestic violence. This workshop will address domestic violence in lesbian, gay and transgender relationships, specifically focusing on legal issues and remedies. Presentation will include the ABA's recent efforts around creating national training and education for attorneys representing victims. Speakers: Honorable Mike McHale, Angie Eden, Vernita Gray, and Alzeta Martin.
Co-Sponsored by ABA Young Lawyers Division and the National LGBT Bar Association.
Developments in the Law Related to Reporting Misconduct of Other Lawyers under the Himmel Duty and Professional Rules
